MUSIC DIRECTOR, AUCKLAND PHILHARMONIA (NEW ZEALAND)
Miguel Harth-Bedoya is recognized as one of the most exciting young conductors on the international scene. Winner of the 2002 Seaver/NEA Conductors Award, Mr. Harth-Bedoya currently serves as Music Director of the Fort Worth Symphony and Music Director of the Auckland Philharmonia in New Zealand.
In North America, his active guest-conducting schedule includes appearances with the Baltimore Symphony, Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Dallas Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Minnesota Symphony, Montreal Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony.
Recent and upcoming European engagements include the Berlin Symphony, Birmingham Symphony, Helsinki Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Madrid National Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, NDR Orchestra/Hamburg, Orchestre National de Lyon, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, WDR Orchestra/Cologne and the Zurich Tonhalle, among others. Festival appearances include Adelaide, Avanti (Helsinki), BBC Proms, Blossom, Hollywood Bowl (for which he received an Emmy), Interlochen, Oregon Bach, Ravinia and Tanglewood.
Equally at home in opera, Mr. Harth-Bedoya will make debuts next season with the Minnesota Opera, conducting Tosca and the Santa Fe Opera, conducting Osvaldo Golijov’s Ainadamar, with Dawn Upshaw in the leading role. He recently conducted the world premiere of Stephen Paulus’s new opera, Heloise and Abelard, at the Juilliard Opera Center and was immediately re-engaged to conduct Le Rossignol and Oedipus Rex. Mr. Harth-Bedoya has also directed Romeo and Juliet with the Fort Worth Opera and numerous productions with the New Opera Company of Peru.
In addition to his highly acclaimed six-year term as Associate Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Miguel Harth-Bedoya has served as Music Director of the Eugene Symphony in Oregon and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Lima. He led the Juilliard Orchestra on highly successful tours of France and Japan, and has collaborated with such distinguished soloists as Mstislav Rostropovich, Yo-Yo Ma, Gary Graffman, Joshua Bell, Midori, Garrick Ohlsson and James Galway.
Born in Lima, Peru, Mr. Harth-Bedoya holds degrees in conducting from the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School.
