Mikhail RUDY - Chagall, The Sound of Colours

Mikhail Rudy’s most recent fabulous project, whereby arts and music enter into a dialogue, led with his everlasting maestria and depth. This is a moving tribute, extremely well achieved, to an artist he has well known at the end of his life : Marc Chagall. - Thierry Hilleriteau / Le Figaro

Mikhail Rudy was close to Marc Chagall in his last years.
He gave his first concert in the West with Mstislav Rostropovich and Isaac Stern in Beethoven Triple concerto for Marc Chagall’s 90th birthday, who he then met on numerous occasions.

In collaboration with the Chagall family, who allowed him to use many unpublished sketches for the ceiling of the Opera Garnier, Mikhail Rudy has created a new animated film which he accompanies by music from Gluck, Mozart, Wagner, Debussy and Ravel, the painters evoked by Chagall on the ceiling.

The premiere took place at the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Marc Chagall Museum in Nice in July 2013. This performance is followed by a number of invitations at Maison de la musique de Nanterre, Rouen Opera, Sao Polo Sala Sao Paolo, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées Paris, Auditorium Milano, Musée de Grenoble, Salle Poirel Nancy as well as at the Festivals of La Roque d’Anthéron, Besançon, Hong-Kong, Mexico, La Chaise-Dieu, Wimbledon.

On October 18, 2015, Mikhail Rudy plays his program Chagall, The Sound of Colours at the Philharmonie de Paris, during the exhibition Chagall : The Triumph of Music, of which he is the music director. The exhibition was extended for presentation at La Piscine in Roubaix in January 2016, and travels to Montreal and Los Angeles in 2017.

The release of the DVD of his movie, titled Chagall, The Sound of Colours, takes place at this occasion.
